On the program:

WORKSHOP – UNDERGROUND CULTURE IN OUTDOOR SPACES
The closure of nightlife venues imposed by the pandemic has pushed underground artists to take over outdoor public spaces to continue expressing themselves. Moderator Sammy Halimi founded Oxygen as an arts outreach project that has given voice to a network of artists through a responsible approach to organizing spontaneous events.

DISCUSSION – PUBLIC SPACES
Tasha Morizio, Executive Director of the Société de développement commercial du boulevard Saint-Laurent, and Marie-Pier Tessier De L’Étoile, Executive Director of Aire commune, interview each other about their visions of nightlife in public spaces.

PANEL – THE NOISE OF CULTURE
Managing the noise environment surrounding nightlife activities is a key issue for the economic development of the metropolis. This guest panel proposes a more benevolent approach to Montreal’s cultural nights.
With:
Romain Dumoulin, Acoustics Consultant at Soft dB and former noise technician at the City of Montreal – David Vincent, Sound Designer, One Wave

PANEL – THE ROLE OF NIGHTLIFE CULTURE FOR LGBTQ+ COMMUNITIES
The night has always been at the heart of LGBTQ+ cultures as a place to meet, to explore one’s identity, to organize community and politics, and to celebrate a culture of diversity. This guest panel looks at the history and current state of LGBTQ+ nightlife in Montreal. How do we take this legacy into account when planning for the nightlife of tomorrow?
With:
Elle Barbara, multidisciplinary artist – Karen Herland, Professor at Concordia University

PANEL – A VIRUS IN THE NIGHT
Health measures to reduce socialization have resulted in the stigmatization of the night. How can we build on the harm reduction approach applied in party settings to include the nighttime community in the prevention of COVID-19 infections?
With:
Jean-Sébastien Fallu, Founder of the Groupe de recherche en intervention psychosociale

PANEL – SUMMER OVERVIEW AND THE FESTIVAL OF TOMORROW
Montreal events had to adapt to the new sanitary measures over the past summer. Our panel of guests look back on their experiences organizing during a pandemic and reflect on the place of tomorrow’s festivals.
With:
Évelyne Côté, Evenko – Gaëlle Cerf, Les Survenants – Nicolas Cournoyer, Piknic Electronik – Laurent Saulnier, Équipe Spectra

ONLY A FEW SPOTS LEFT FOR OUR OPEN MIC NIGHT!

Starting at 6pm on Thursday, October 21st, MTL 24/24’s Night Council will open the floor to citizens for two hours of comment. A great opportunity for locals to exchange with the citizen’s consultation table of Montreal’s nightlife!

A report of the interventions will then be sent to the City of Montreal to ensure that the future nightlife policy is in tune with the needs of the community. Representatives from the municipal government will also be present.
